battle system in order to succeed. Additional features include: a
customizable user interface, seven races with access to eight character
classes, engaging PvP combat, and a three-continent wide game play area
to explore.

is the first MMORPG featuring true action combat, providing all of the
depth of an MMO with the intensity and gratification of an Action game.
Players fully control their characters using the game's dynamic battle
system. Player actions can change the balance of power in a world
threatened by dark powers as seven allied races try to work together to
protect their lands from marauding monsters, underworld dwellers, and
evil scheming gods. A redefinition of the MMO that requires skills in combat instead of simply leveling characters and adding adding armor
Epic battles that require quick movement and character reflexes .
Set in a breathtaking world conjured by two dreaming primal gods, your
explorations will take you over rugged mountains, across searing
deserts, and through hazardous jungles. Take your place as a soldier for
the Valkyon Federation and fight alongside other races to forge a new
future while healing the mistakes of the past. There's no time for
factions in Tera - all seven races and eight classes must
cooperate to wrench destiny from the gods themselves. Arm yourself,
gather your allies, and take control of your fate. Fighting prowess,
guild rankings, and social dynamics come together as you find yourself
vying for political control of the world itself in Tera's unique endgame.
Customer reviews
- It seems these days unless you get a giant statue it's not a good collectors edition and you'll hear is complaining from the masses. I've been collecting the CE editions for most games I like. Typically with a CE edition you get An artbook,A sound track, a unique game case, and maybe some in game goodies like alternate costumes or a weapon. The TERA CE is a very nice high quality item compaired ot other collectors editions I've purchased for my game collection.
What comes in it and the quality of it I'll reveiew here, also I uploaded some screen shots.
The game come in well detailed box incased in a protective hard cover plastic case with Tera written on it and the usual game details on the back. When you pull the protective cover open you can access the CE box itself. The box is like a cardboard cigar box. It's thick, strong, and a heavy quality with a texured surface and the Terra sybol printed on it.
Once you open the box you'll find all of your goodies.
First goodie is the Letter of Marque: It's a highly detailed 2 sided note from Commander whomever telling you to go to war.
The second goodie is the Tera map which is on a very high quality textured paper. It's done more like the old styled maps where it's a thick grainy kind of paper.
The third goodie is the handbook. For me this was probably the biggest let down. It's not a handbook and it looks nothing like it does in the picture like an actual book. It's just a game guide but it's like the kind of game guide you would get in the ORIGINAL 1989 Nintendo games where theres art on every page and details about the story and characters. I wouldn't consider it a "handbook" as it doesn't play into the lore of the game like the "letter of Marque" does.
The fourth goodie is the CE game itself. This features CE foil artwork that looks pretty amazing actually. Although I doubt many would appreciate the quality of it unless they know what foil artwork is already. Inside the game case are a stack of disk with the bonus sound track on the bottom. So note that the bonus soundtrack does not have a seperate sleeve or case, its just on the bottom of the pile.
The fifth goodie and the best goodie is the difference between knowing and assuming. Some people assume that because of the rumors surrounding the quality of the CE that the included feature item was a cheap plastic item. I'm here to tell you do not listen to anyone that does not own the actual collectors edition. Much like the game, don't listen to anyone that hasn't played it giving a review of it based on what they "heard".
The Tera compass is gorgious. It's not a toy, it's not plastic, it's not cheap but it is a real metal compass with a glass face and a nice message enclosed in side of it (which I will not spoil). The outside of the compass is highly and I do mean highly detailed with the Tera logo like on the front of the box. It's a very heavy item and looks like it's brushed bronze. It's probably the nicest item in the box and a very attractive "lore" piece.
So that concludes the physical Collectors Edition items. The other goodies are digital and include a mount and some ingame jewlery.
My Tera game review:
Like most people I've been waiting and waiting for the next revolution in MMO's. We've all played the big names and some of us have even played the small games and ever free to play game in between. After a while the feeling just seems like next MMO is just remix of the last one. Tera was on my radar ever since I heard about it during E3 press coverage some years back. The game itself never really created as big of a buzz as some of the other titles like Star Wars the old republic, Guild Wars 2, or even Diablo 3. It mostly stayed under the radar unless you were looking for it. The most you heard about it was through rumors or whatever footage was available for it on the internet.
I took a gamble at giving Tera a try like I do most games. I was lucky enough to get invited into open beta testing and boy did this game blow my socks off. From every game I played before the experience I felt in Tera was nothing like I had before in any MMO. The developers put serious work into the game and it shows. What I will say that is the first breath of fresh air is the environment. I run an Evga series card and the game looks beautiful! It's probably the prettiest world I have seen. There is detail everywhere from rainbows across the sky to leaves on the ground the games environment is beautiful. If you could mix in "The Never Ending Story","Avatar",and "Lord of the rings" you'd have the beauty that is this game.
The world environment really makes you feel the part in an RPG as it is the backdrop for the story. The characters and classes are matched with the same beauty and detail. Customization of your character is limited in some areas but heavy in others as you can make your character look unlike any other character in the game however you can't adjust your height. So you will be the same size as everyone else in your race/sex.
The games art style is matched by it's music style with also fits the fantasy world script. When you entire a serine area you will hear serine music, when you enter a bustling town you will hear bustling music. When you are in combat you will hear combat music. It all adds to the adaptive feel of the game which makes it feel like the world itself is alive and not stagnant of npc's and redundant quests.
The gameplay of Tera was the selling point for me and it will be the make it or break it point for others as well. Tera is the first true action MMORPG and it plays like an Action RPG. You can use an Xbox 360 controller or a PS3 controller to play the game. I sincerely promise you that you will feel like you're playing a console RPG over an MMO. The real feeling of this game can't be felt as well with a mouse and keyboard but the standard style will work also. What sets Tera apart is that it makes you think and react in combat. It's not about the skills you're using but rather how you use then and when you're using them. There is no more point click and repeat in battles. It's block, run, dodge, attack, evade, attack, daze, block etc. etc. It is real combat and the action feels like real combat. This is what makes Tera such an amazing game to play. Pointing and clicking on a mouse,Tabbing away and hitting F1 keys is obsolete. That style of game play doesn't match the newer style of games today but MMO's have kept it alive until now. Tera destroys every concept of old about how an MMO should be played and that is why this game is so likeable. It's player skill that rewards you at the end of the day and that's what makes it so worth while.
If you're a person who is more accustomed to the old style of Tabbing and clicking Tera might be a hard adjustment if you're not open to new aspects of game play. However, I do recommend trying it out even still.
Another fun part about Tera are the races the game offers. There are serious races like the Elves and Aman and then "goofy" cartoony races thrown in like Elin and Popori. Although every race has access to the same classes for now, the distinction between them is the attitude of your character. Tera goes into high detail in some areas but in others certain details are kind of skipped out on. There are only a few character voice options which breaks down to Low,Medium and High voices so every class will sound about the same with the same voices between them. An Aman male will sounds the same as a human Male etc. The voice acting so far including NPC's just doesn't match the distinction of the races but hopefully maybe that will change in the future. Not game breaking but areas where more detail can be noted.
The questing style of Tera is like you'd expect in an MMO. NPC quest involving killing or collects,Dungeons, monsters etc. They are all here but they are here TERA style. Which means you get a taste of a new experience doing the tasks that most MMO's offer. Tera will probably be the only true world PVP oriented MMO to be released. The game is heavy on PVP so I suggest to learn to fight and defend yourself well or join a PVE server.
So how does Tera stack up?
Well if you're still wondering about it as a game it is a very enjoyable experience. If you were in the same boat as myself and others might have been only going by rumors, and game footage to make a decision on Tera you have been strongly mislead. Although Tera gets a bad wrap for obviously being a game with very good looking women the game has a lot of class. It's apparent when you play that the developers wanted to offer a game that could be taken seriously and they did. If you judge the game by watching someone else play it through game footage you will not understand the rewarding Gameplay of Tera. It's a game you have to experience not a game you can watch.
Overall I'm very picky about the MMO's I choose (see my other reviews) and if a game feels like a grind, or a time sync, or something I can't play for an half hour - an hour and get something out of than it's not worth my time. Tera doesn't give that feeling or that vibe. It's still an MMO and it still has it's tasks but it's design around being fun and exploitative whether you chose to find a grind or find a purpose you can enjoy is yo to you.
5/5 from me, this has been by far a fresh breath of air and a long needed change in the stagnant market of what can be considered "new" MMO's.
By Pravius : I have been following Tera online for a long time now. Played in the
closed betas and open and now release. En Masse (the developer) has
done a really good job with the game so far. What I like most about the
game is the combat system, the combat system is real live action
combat. No more tab targeting, no more boring gameplay!
The quest system is very much like other games, and yes there is nothing new here. The cool thing Tera does is seperate main story quests from quest hub quests. Through the game you follow a main story that will take you through some twists and turns, for a game with very little back lore, it has some decent story telling ability. But what makes the quests the most fun is the combat system, it actually has made me look forward to Killing 10 of those and getting 10 of that.
The PVP is very fun as well. On a PvP server you have the ability to declare yourself an outlaw. This means that you are able to attack everyone and anyone. That does not come without consiqnences however either. Once you kill someone you build infamy, your name turns red and any player is able to attack you. This so far has created some serious fun within the community. There are guilds now that form soley to fight Player Killers, and on the flip side some guilds that are dedicated to Player Killing only.
The community is what is really going to shape this game, especially with the political system. In Tera towards higher levels you are able to actually control whole providences. As a Vangard you are able to change the taxes for that area, you are able to choose what NPC's there are in those areas, and lot's more. You can do this by either popular vote or by combat.
If you are looking for a change of pace in the mmo scene then this is the game to play
